Hello! My name is Irene, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Zaragoza.
This summer I decided to go as an Au Pair to Ireland, specifically to Howth, a town 20 minutes away from Dublin, for 3 months.
Everything I enjoy being with children and the desire to learn another language were the main reasons why I decided to be an Au Pair. Also, I wanted to live the experience of being away from home and get to know a new culture.
The family I chose to live this experience was lovely. At all times they made sure that I felt at home and that I had everything I needed. My job there was to take care of 3 children: a 5 year old girl, a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old baby.
Regarding the country, Ireland has different customs from Spain, but from the first moment I adapted to them. However, the first month was the hardest, as I did not know the family or the children and it was difficult for me to adapt to their rhythm of life.
Although there were some difficult moments, this experience has been incredible. It has helped me to grow as a person, to trust myself more and to feel more independent. As for English, I have noticed a lot of improvement in just 3 months, since it was the main language to communicate. In addition, attending an academy during my stay has helped me to get along better.
As you can see, this experience brings a lot more than just learning a new language. You meet people from different parts of the world, a new culture, you get to have a second family and, most importantly, you get to know yourself.
So, if you are thinking of living this experience, do not hesitate for a moment.
