Au Pair in Germany. “Personal relationships are intensified when you are abroad”.

Hi, I’m Marta from Spain. I’m a graduate in Tourism Management, and when I finished my degree, I decided to take a step forward with German, since we had acquired the basics. I was very busy finishing my TFG and my internship, and thanks to a friend of mine I met Kidowe. I contacted them and in less than a month I had everything ready to go. At all times I have received very effective attention and a very close treatment from them, I couldn’t be happier.

I have been in Munich, Germany since October last year. I was put in contact with a great family, with whom I fit in 100%. I take care of a 5-year-old boy who has become my favorite person. My family also has a 12-year-old girl, who is like a little sister to me who always counts on me for advice. When I arrived everything seemed very easy, although I always felt a bit dizzy. Looking back and considering that I now have a level of German I can manage, I am surprised at how everything happened so quickly and how I was able to cope without speaking the language at all. The boy has been my main teacher, even though I have already completed two German courses. I hope to take the B1 exam soon.

In my personal experience, my host-mum was starting a Start-Up, creating her own brand. In December she asked me if I would like to earn some extra money by helping her, and of course I agreed. At first, she only needed simple tasks and I helped her with the orders and preparing the products. Eventually she extended my contract until my Au Pair experience was over and gave me more responsibilities. I am currently working in the digital marketing sector (in German) for her brand, and she wants to take me on long term after the end of the contract.

Sometimes there are difficult moments, but it is true that in this case the good ones make it all worthwhile. In personal and social life, I have met a lot of interesting people. Relationships intensify when you are abroad, everyone is in a similar situation, far from their families, and that makes us take refuge in each other. The family also includes me in their plans, even if it’s just for the weekend. Two weeks after moving to Germany, they took me with them to Austria, it was wonderful to get lost in the Alps, it looked like a movie.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied with this whole experience, I am discovering some wonderful places, I feel that I have matured a lot and I see myself more responsible and I think it is something that everyone should do to “fly out of the nest”, leave the comfort zone and open to new adventures. I have always been very insecure when I hesitate whether to do something or not, and many times because of laziness and not getting down to it I have missed very good opportunities. In this case, I just decided to take the plunge, and with the help of the KIDOWE team it was so easy to do that the next month I was living in another country.
